(I-AutoNewsWire.com, February 04, 2013 ) Perkinston, MS -- Business analysts at www.TheCoatingStore.com, a Perkinston, Mississippi firm that specializes in custom car paints, sees a trend towards a higher percentage of brighter colors purchased by automotive shoppers in 2013. Shades of Black, White, and Silver have dominated the automotive color market globally for many years with more chromatic color shades carrying a substantially smaller market share. While the dominating trend in white, black, and silver car colors is expected to continue, there are signs that other colors are picking up steam from late 2012 to early 2013. William Purvis, technical manager for Bayou Innovations, reported “We have seen a nice increase in what we call the brighter shades in early 2013. Don’t get me wrong black, whites, and silvers are still the dominant shade ranges but we see some colors, particularly brighter oranges and greens, making some note-able gains already this year. All signs point towards this trend continuing for the near future both at the automotive OEM level and aftermarket car paint restorations.”
Our sources report that there are several reasons that are likely contributing to this trend. The overall mood and confidence of the buying public plays a role into color selection and on large sample sizes can be measurably seen. When people are happy and confident about what is going on in their life they are more likely to purchase bolder, more vibrant color. Consumer confidence has been slowly increasing from late 2012 through early 2013 which make it more likely for buyers to opt for brighter, less traditional selections. On the contrast late 2008 through early 2012 were very weak years in consumer confidence which likely steered more buyers to traditionally safe black, white, and silver shades. Another factor contributing to the trend is the improvement in color offerings in the automotive OEM market. New raw material and processing technologies available to automotive OEM suppliers allow them to create and apply more unique car paint colors than were previously feasible in a factory setting. Many of these processes previously involved many coats and long wait times which limited there use to primarily automotive aftermarket repaints for customization and restoration purposes. New technologies allow these processes to be done in fewer steps which makes them more “factory friendly”. A third factor contributing to the trend is a stronger presence of the bolder shades in automotive stylings chosen for production models. In order to distinguish themselves and survive in the bleak automotive markets that the last 4 years have largely supported, some manufacturers helped market their brands by offering bolder colors as part of the standard options. Many of these colors have gained a viral-like following amongst automotive paint enthusiasts.
It will be interesting to see how long this trend continues and how widespread the color selections develop as a result. Visit this site to see of the popular bold colors.
