(I-AutoNewsWire.com, June 15, 2013 ) England, UK -- Following the records high seen for used cars, there has been a falling in car prices over recent months. According to the industry, that trend is likely to continue.
The decline has not come fast enough for the salesman and firms, however, as cars are expected to see a bump in the early summer months. One reason for the lagging numbers: people are holding on to their aging cars more, making small fixes rather than trading in for new machines, during recession years.
“Just too old,” is what general manager of the Smart Motors Toyota dealer, Allen Foster, said about attempting to resell his own used-car inventory. Foster stated that many of the trade-in attempts he sees are taken to auction or wholesaling almost immediately.
Overall, the used-car prices have dropped an average of 4.5% over the month of April when it comes to wholesale levels. That number is significantly lower compared to the April of 2012, according to Adesa Consulting. The slump is made more prominent due to the record highs seen over the spring, “they had almost no where else to go but down,” said Tom Kontos of Adesa.
Both minivans and full-sized crossovers were hardest thing by the fall, with drops into the double-digits. Cars were down a over 6%. However, the economy is showing signs of picking up steam, and that can mean better numbers for vehicle sales in the future. Auto Dealers will hope for a strong economy will mean a very short drop, and a sustained sales figure to persist soon.
There was a bright spot in sales, as trucks jumped up 3.3% in the full-size category. Full-size vans saw a large jump, up just over 8% in April.
